Goodyear takes its name from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which bought 16,000 acres here in 1917 to grow cotton for vehicle tire cords. During World War II, the airfield that is now Phoenix Goodyear Airport was built, and on November 19, 1946, the community became a town with 151 homes, 250 apartments, a grocery store, a barber shop, a beauty shop and a gas station.

The city has grown enormously since then. Goodyear won the All-America City Award from the National Civic League in 2008. Estrella, the city’s largest master-planned community, covers about 20,000 acres in the southern part of the city, while Palm Valley spreads across roughly 9,000 acres north of Interstate 10. Inside, full-extension Blum drawer slides glide smoothly under heavy loads, soft-close hinges keep doors quiet and our hardware is rated for more than 100,000 cycles. Each large adjustable shelf supports about 150 pounds, with an aluminum stiffener on the front edge to prevent sagging.
