If you’re a retail store, you need retail cabinets. And as a rule, such cabinets are significantly different than those found in a garage or home. In this two part series we explore the unique purposes that these cabinets serve.
Retail Cabinets: The Art of Strategic Concealment
A retail environment has specialized needs where storage is concerned. Unlike a home or garage which are multifunctional, a retail space is designed with just one purpose in mind: to display products for people to buy and encourage them to buy them. That’s where retail cabinetry comes in.
Retail cabinets are designed to be unobtrusive, and in some cases have recessed handles. Everything about a cabinet for a retail store should be about discretion. Nothing should detract from a shopper’s shopping experience. In addition to not messing up the aesthetics of the store, a cabinet also serves an important purpose: storage.
Storage and Retail Cabinet Installation

In a way, a retail store is a lot like a stage show. Nothing should ever disrupt the show for a shopper entering the store. One of the biggest things that detracts from shopping is clutter, which is where retail cabinets come in. Even though shoppers love stores that have a lot of products to offer, they only want to see a few of them at a time, and not have them arranged in a bewildering display of items.
Sometimes, too much stuff can even make a customer hesitate and decide against coming into a store. Ideally a store puts some items out, see how they sell and keeps the others in reserve. All retail spaces have a stockroom, however, it isn’t the only place to store extra inventory. Retail stores need to balance the needs of the customers with the needs of their store, and utilize their space more efficiently. Shoe stores stack boxes of shoes up high. Some stores put stuff behind the counter. And yet another place to store things? Another place to put additional items is in carefully designed retail storage cabinets.
Part two of this series will explore another use for retail storage cabinetry: security.
